Lack of exercise can make the pain worse

If a pain problem has persisted for many weeks, the body is signalling that there are barriers to the healing process that need to be eliminated. Pain often prevents us from getting enough exercise, and lack of exercise can worsen the pain by leading to stiffness, weakness, and deconditioning.

In back pain, exercise and rehabilitation are critical in stimulating the healing process. Movement is necessary to keep the discs, muscles, ligaments, and joints healthy. Regular exercise has many beneficial effects. It can help with strength and flexibility, ease pain, stiffness and protect bones. It has also been shown to be very effective at preventing low back pain from returning. Low impact exercise for example, walking or swimming can strengthen the back muscles and the muscles of the core. Which in turns,  allows them to support the spine correctly. It is important to stay as active and mobile as possible in your daily life so your body does not become weak due to your lack of exercise. Exercise programs may include things like strength training, stretching, and endurance training. Other kinds of exercise like yoga and pilates may also be suitable for low back pain.
