Asthma Week

National Asthma Week is on 1-7 September so let’s get involved. This year Asthma Australia is focusing on air pollution. It’s time to educate Australians to think differently about the air we are breathing in. Also, to take simple steps to reduce our pollution intake for a healthier life.

There are 2.7 million asthmatics in Australia.  With air pollution high and regularly breathed in, consequently, the risks and impacts for asthmatics are getting harder. This Asthma Week (1-7 September) Asthma Australia has joined forces with key respiratory, health, and climate organisations to encourage Aussies like you, to care as much about the air you breathe as the food you eat. For more information go to Asthma Australia.

So let us all get together and help raise awareness this week.  Asthmatics are encouraged to start a conversation with their friends and family about how asthma and common myths impact them.

What is Asthma?

An asthmatic’s airways become inflamed, narrow, and swollen. Extra mucus can also make it difficult to breathe. It can be minor in some cases or it can interfere with daily activities. Additionally, in severe cases, it may result in a life-threatening attack. Consequently, asthmatics may have breathing difficulties,  chest pain, cough, and wheezing.
