Asthma Week 2021

National Asthma Week – September 1st -7th

Asthma Week

National Asthma Week is on 1-7 September – so get involved. This year Asthma Australia is focusing on air pollution. It’s time to educate Australians, to think differently about the air we are breathing in and to take simple steps to reduce our intake for a healthier life.

There are 2.7 million Australians are living with asthma (1 in 9).  With air pollution high and being a regular thing, we breathe in. The risks and impacts for people with asthma are getting harder. This Asthma Week (1-7 September) Asthma Australia has joined forces with key respiratory, health, and climate organisations to encourage Aussies like you, to care as much about the air you breathe as the food you eat. For more information go to Asthma Australia.

So let us all get together and help raise awareness this week.  Asthma Australia is encouraging people with asthma to start a conversation with their friends and family about how asthma and common asthma myths impact them.

What is Asthma?

Asthma is when a person’s airways become inflamed, narrow, and swells. You can produce extra mucus, which makes it difficult to breathe. Asthma can be minor in some cases or it can interfere with daily activities. In severe cases, it may lead to a life-threatening attack. Asthma may cause you to breathe difficulty, have chest pain, cough and wheezing. The symptoms may sometimes flare-up.
