Help beat Bowl Cancer! June is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month. Bowel cancer is a common diagnosis in Australia. It is potentially one of the most preventable cancers through the early detection of abnormalities from screening. It can affect any part of the colon or rectum and may also be referred to as colon or rectal cancer, depending on where the cancer is located.

Bowel Cancer Australia’s signature event is to raise awareness of Australia’s second deadliest cancer and funds for the leading community-funded charity.  Additionally, it is dedicated to prevention, early diagnosis, research, and quality treatment. As a result, they can aim to provide and the best care for everyone affected by bowel cancer.

Sadly, bowel cancer claims the lives of 103 Australians every week (5,354 people a year).  However, it is one of the most treatable types of cancer if found early. Whilst the risk of bowel cancer increases significantly with age, the disease doesn’t discriminate. Affecting men, women, young or old, in fact, 300 Australians will be diagnosed with bowel cancer this week (15,610 people a year).
