Daffodil Day

This Daffodil Day, is Thursday, 31st August, though you can get involved at any time throughout the month. The first Daffodil Day was held in Australia in 1986 and it’s Cancer Council’s most iconic and much-loved annual campaign. As a result, it raises life-saving funds for world-class cancer research and is a time of hope where we come together to show our support for the 150,000 Australians diagnosed with cancer each year. In 2021, this appeal raised almost $1.5 million for life-saving cancer research.  Cancer Council is asking all Australians for their support once again.

Why is the daffodil a symbol for cancer?

The daffodil is one of the first flowers of spring, therefore it symbolises rebirth and new beginnings. For the many affected by cancer, the daffodil represents hope for a cancer-free future.

What happens on Daffodil Day?

On this day, thousands of volunteers take to the streets selling flowers and daffodil pins to collect funds for the fight against cancer. Likewise, many others organise morning teas and other events in their homes, local communities, and workplaces. Why not brighten up your home, office, or workplace by purchasing fresh daffodils and helping to create change in the lives of people impacted by cancer? Sadly, this heartbreaking disease has touched most people’s lives today.  You can always help by donating online. For more information go to Cancer Council Daffodil Day appeal.
