Spinal Health Week

May 20-26 is Spinal Health Week.  It’s important to raise awareness about spinal health. By participating in Spinal Health Week you can make a huge impact on improving your overall health and wellbeing. It is Australia’s longest-running national health awareness campaign dedicated to improving the spinal health of Australians of all ages.

The spine is a truly amazing part of the human body. It is one of the differentiating factors that define humans. The spine has three important functions:

  • To support the weight of the body
  • To provide flexibility for movement,
  • And to protect nerve roots and fibres and form a protective surrounding for the spinal cord.

“If you’re among the 4 out of 5 Australians who experience back pain, you’re not alone. Back pain is the single leading cause of disability globally and can often lead to poorer quality of life, psychological distress, or bodily pain. If left untreated, back pain can sometimes lead to disability”. (ref by Australian Chiropractors Association)

So it’s important to look after your spine and practice good posture.

This year, during National Spinal Health Week 2024, the campaign focuses on the causes of back pain and the negative effects back problems are having on Australians and the economy. For more information go to Spinal Health Week. (Aust. Chiropractors Assoc).
