Chiropractor as a primary contact

Home > Services > Chiropractic > Chiropractor as a primary contact

Chiropractors are primary contact practitioners – which means they can see patients without a referral from a GP. They focus on treating the spine by using their hands to examine and treat health conditions related to the bones, muscles and joints (musculoskeletal problems).

A chiropractor has a 5-year education acquired theoretical and practical knowledge to take a position on whether a patient is suitable for treatment by a chiropractor. Chiropractors are independently responsible for examination, diagnosis and treatment on a par with doctors, dentists and psychologists. On suspicion of any underlying organic disease or pathology, the patient will therefore need a follow-up appointment and investigation. A chiropractor as primary contact is therefore free to require more advanced testing such as CT and MRI in the medical and hospital as well as a physiotherapist.
